I have confidence in X4 being the best X game ever made, in a few months. Universe Traders were kinda underwhelming last I played, but M sized gas miners where paying for themselves in 1 hour of game time and setting them up is just a matter of buying the ship and setting the default behavior to "go mine gas". The UI is much better although still not great, so it's much easier to setup production than it was in X3. You can make a TON of money solo in X4 by doing some of the missions as well as crystal mining.īut you can make even more if while you are doing that, a bunch of gas miners are out there harvesting and selling resources. Standing around on the landing bay for a large mining ship just watching the drones do their thing is cool. You can get up from the pilot seat, let the NPC sit down and pilot the ship, then just stand around and watch him fly. In Rebirth I didn't feel that space legs added anything to the game - but in X4 it's actually really really cool. Overall, it's in pretty good shape at launch, they've clearly learned a lot from Rebirth here.Ĭlick to expand.Yeah the cockpits are unique - AND you can just stand up and walk around inside the cockpit and on larger ships go the the launch bay and watch you fighters land and take off. I've not flown capital ships yet or engaged in combat with/against them, so we'll see. Those Xenon M fighters are so hard to hit. Sectors don't feel as lived-in or cramped as Albion and Omicron Lyrae in Rebirth Maybe I just need to declare war on some faction. Hunting pirate capships was one of the most fun things for me in Rebirth. Dunno if it's just a function of the default difficulty level, but raiders/pirates don't seem to field capships, and I haven't seen pirate hunting missions yet. Bring back talking to NPCs on stations from the ship Others are near impossible to fulfill because the ware I'm supposed to deliver is already oversupplied in that sector. Missions are a bit sparse and some of the guild mission chains are buggy or disappear outright. ~ Research mechanic is cool, but somewhat limited. ~ The station exteriors are pretty, but they could do with looking more imposing and grand. + Not having to deal with cargolifter URV. Wish there was a bit more variety in the loadout you can have though. + Teleporting to any station or ship you need to be in + Dock to space to other ship to spacesuit transitions are pretty smooth + The map view is sooooo amazing and useful + Station interior graphics are sooo much better than Rebirth X Rebirth was my first entry into the series (Home of Light + some quality of life mods was quite enjoyable, but it was an unplayable mess at release) I also played the most X3, followed by AP, though I primarily did combat missions in AP, and the stock market allowed you to print money. The X2 universe suffered from an energy shortage so bad that that was pretty much the only player factory worth building. The economic balancing aspect is difficult because they don’t want to leave a completely broken economy or an economy so robust that there is no room for the player. The scanning stations for deals part was pretty dull, but there is a lot of stuff I hope they port over to X4. My biggest frustration was that the starting economy was so broken that it was difficult to source the materials to build stations, and some of the shipyards were clogged with NPC ship orders that couldn’t be fulfilled. I think it’s unfortunate that the game didn’t let you pilot smaller explorer type ships, like the ridiculously fast M5 in X3 (blanking on the name), and ship autopilot for the Albion Skunk seemed dumber in Rebirth (which you could get around by docking to a larger ship and issuing it an order), but it shaped up into a much better game than it currently gets credit for being. I didn’t play Rebirth until recently where a lot of the issues were patched out.
